Issue Position

Rhode Island is still recovering from the greatest fiscal crisis in our history. With our spending out of control and Smith Hill's refusal to revise the tax structure, we have all seen property taxes rise to compensate for lost revenue.

Taxpayers need real relief and we need it now.

Smith Hill has repeatedly called for cities and towns to tighten their belts, while the State continues to overspend to the point that we cannot avoid running deficits. Recently, the legislative leadership was left to decide between making difficult fiscal decisions at the State level. We already know who they sided with, and it's not the taxpayer.

As a local property owner, I will fight any "back door" tax hike by making the difficult fiscal decisions that are required in State government. I will not support any effort to pass the burden onto local taxpayers.
